This firm will encourage you to decide how contaminated and geotechnically constrained land is investigated, assessed and made fit to build on. Clients need advice they can take to planners, funders and contractors—not another unread appendix. Your judgement on risk, remediation and verification is what lets schemes proceed, change or stop before money is wasted.
Performance Objectives
Design and deliver site investigations that answer a specific planning, acquisition or construction decision and close data gaps before they become programme risk.
Produce conceptual site models and qualitative or quantitative risk assessments that regulators and design teams can act on without reinterpretation.
Set remediation or management strategies that meet agreed risk criteria, cost and programme and stay accountable through verification.
Sign off junior and mid-level technical work so reports are issued once, defensible and aligned to the brief.
Convert ground risk into clear commercial advice that wins follow-on commissions from developers, contractors and landowners.
Bring at least two less experienced engineers to the point where they can run routine phases without a full rewrite.
Hold live commissions to agreed fee, programme and quality and flag variance early enough to recover.
Environment & Resources
You will sit in a UK geoenvironmental delivery team, reporting to a technical director or associate, alongside geotechnical, environmental and CAD colleagues. You will have current UK guidance and tools—investigation standards, risk-assessment methods, laboratory scheduling and GIS—plus a defined review allowance on fee-earning work. Expect regular site attendance across the region and direct contact with clients and regulators.
Essential Qualifications
Degree in geology, environmental engineering or a related earth science and chartered or near chartered status (CGeol, CEnv, or equivalent).
Proven UK contaminated-land delivery: investigation design, conceptual site models, risk assessment and remediation verification.
A record of defending advice to local authorities, environmental regulators and client technical teams.
Experience running multi-phase commissions to fee and programme, not only contributing sections.
Writing clear enough for planners and project managers to use without a specialist translation.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend sites.
Role Selling Points
Senior technical ownership without leaving the ground or the report behind.
Advice judged on consents, verified outcomes, and buildable sites—not report volume.
A visible route toward associate-level technical leadership.
Direct influence on live development decisions, with mentoring built into the role rather than added later.
Call to Action
If you can own ground risk from first borehole to verified close-out, apply with a short note on one site where your advice changed the design or the deal.
