Job Details

Role: Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Manchester (office-based with occasional project site visits)

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical Design Engineer you will be expected to:

• Prepare detailed electrical system designs for building services projects, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, fire alarm, emergency lighting and communications systems.
• Lead electrical engineering aspects from concept through to detailed design and technical completion.
• Coordinate designs with other disciplines (mechanical, structural, architectural) to ensure fully integrated solutions.
• Carry out technical calculations, load assessments and compliance checks with relevant UK standards and building regulations.
• Produce and review technical drawings, specifications and schedules.
• Liaise with clients, project teams and stakeholders throughout the design process.
• Support junior engineers and contribute to quality assurance procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of electrical design processes and standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Chartered or working towards Chartered status (e.g. IEng/CEng) with relevant professional membership (e.g. CIBSE, IET).
• Proven experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK electrical engineering standards, building services systems and compliance requirements.
• Competence in engineering design software and modelling tools relevant to electrical services.
• Excellent communication, organisational and team working skills.
• Ability to manage workload and deliver to deadlines in a busy office environment.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving with attention to detail and commercial awareness.

Desirable Attributes

• Previous exposure to BIM workflows or Revit MEP.
• Experience working across multiple sectors such as healthcare, retail, commercial and industrial projects.
• An interest in sustainable design practices and low-carbon electrical solutions.
