The nuclear sector is experiencing a renaissance and will become one of the most important / influencial industries in the UK over the next decade.

Due to this expansion, one of Code's major client's need to hire a Lead Mechanical Engineer.

Some of the role's objectives :

This is principally a hands-on design based role involving additional team leadership.
The Engineer will be responsible for delivering a package of work within a project within their discipline.
Frequent liaison with other disciplines in the design team and the client would be expected.
This Lead role will be the main interface between senior management and hands-on design.

Experience :

Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with an HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
A full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling to site will be required.
Some projects require high level security clearance (SC or DV) and as such existing SC or DV clearance would be needed.
The ideal candidate will need to demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position.
Experience in nuclear is preferred but not essential. It is a requirement of the position to demonstrate experience gained in a similar position ideally from a highly regulated industry. This could be from a background in Oil & Gas, Automotive, Petrochemical, Defence or Water.
Technical experience could be gained from remote handling systems / equipment, heavy engineering, cranes, pipes and pumps.
Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles is required e.g. Forces, stresses, materials selection.
Previous experience of leading teams within a project environment would be favourable.

Key Activities :

Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications, primarily using AutoCAD and/or Inventor Checking of design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team.

Prepare supporting design calculations to substantiate design.

Actively contribute to design reviews, safety reviews (Risk Assessments and HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint.

Preparation of technical specifications in liaison with client and project team.

Produce design documentation throughout the design process.

Preparation of installation, commissioning and operating documents.

Planning and allocation of workload to other members of design team within discipline in order to deliver package of work.

Management of sub-contractors providing niche services to the design.

This Lead role is a contract assignment for the duration of 12mths (potential to be extended well beyond this time frame depending on maturity of the project).

Hourly rates can be discussed and are likely to be up to £50ph (subject to expertise / experience).
